after the birth

heart healing for mothers

for women who are on a path to healing from challenges or trauma in pregnancy, birth and postnatal experiences

You always wanted another child

…but now, after the last one, you’re not sure if you can face it again. Still, from time to time, the question crosses your mind, should I have another? But when you think back to the birth experience you had, the pregnancy, the post-partum pain, you just don’t want to go there. Neither you nor your baby had the birth you had anticipated. Neither of you had the birth you deserved.  However much you’d love another child, you just don’t want to go through all that again.

Or perhaps you’ve taken the leap, you are pregnant again.

But suddenly the weight of what you thought you had put behind you has come crashing back. You no longer feel you can trust the process, you fear what is coming. Mostly, you feel numb, unable to connect in the way that you would like with your pregnancy. The joy is tarnished. Your heart is heavy. Your really do not want another experience like the last one, but no one seems to take you seriously or understand how casual comments can hurt so much. You know you need to do something if you want things to be different, but you are just not sure what to do.

You’ve already come a long way

since those early, painful days where you were just getting by, when the story was going round and round your head, and you weren’t sure how you would make it. You have a core of strength that has gotten you this far.

You might have tried talking with friends or family. You may even have tried going over your notes with the After Thoughts service or sought counselling in the NHS or privately. You may have been telling yourself, “This is just how it is – I’ve got to accept it and get on with it.”

Still inside this core, there is a darkness, a brittleness. There’s a part of you that feels lost, disconnected.

The reflecting on what happened, talking with friends or family or professionals, may have been just what you needed to get to where you are now. Sometimes, though, talking about the past just isn’t enough to help us find our way in the present. You can get caught up an a particular narrative of events that just hurts more every time you tell your story.

You feel the need now to find a way out of this old story that is holding you hostage, to listen to your heart and your heart’s need for healing.

Imagine that your heart could feel whole again

that you could feel trust in yourself and your body again. Imagine that you could think about another pregnancy with joy and confidence in yourself. Imagine that you could make choices for yourself and your future as a mother from a place of personal power and love.

As a mother and a doula, I know how much your experiences of birth and parenthood matter

   – not just on an intellectual level, but also on a deeper, more essential level. What we experience shapes us, and we carry these experiences not just in our heads, but in our hearts, bodies, and souls. In myself and in my clients, I have seen the power of these experiences, the impact they have over the longer term.

As so many of us, I have experienced my own challenges and traumas in life – some of them relating to my own experiences of birth and parenting both as a child and as an adult. In my own path to healing, I have also experienced a kind of true heart and soul healing that I had never thought possible. I am still on a healing path. My life may not be perfect, but it is so much better than I ever imagined it could be, and even if my most difficult moments I now feel a sense of strength and security that can carry me through.

True healing is a journey. Sometimes a healing session can bring great leaps forward, sudden insight, unexpected freedom. But healing also means daily practice, living our own intentions to heal ourselves.

As an intuitive healer, I work with both these elements, to support you in your own journey to healing and to provide you with the tools you need to go forward in joy and grace.
